When I graduated in 1986 (a whopping class of 10), my classmate of 12 years (Stephen Coates) and I went off to Boone, North Carolina to attend Appalachian State University.  I graduated Cum Laude from ASU in 1990 with a B.S. Degree in Political Science, and a minor in Business.  I was accepted into Campbell Law School, but did not begin their program until August, 1991.  During the year off I had before beginning law school, I worked in the court system as a community service coordinator for Halifax and Northampton Counties.

In 1992, after my first year of law school, I married my high school sweetheart, Melissa Wood.  We have three children:  John and Gabrielle (twins) and Stephen.  After my second year of law school, I worked as a summer intern with Judge Sidney S. Eagles at the North Carolina Court of Appeals.  After working in downtown Raleigh for a summer, I decided I wanted to work in a small town.  (Didn't care for all that traffic!)

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Camptell Law School in 1994, and started my career as a lawyer with John W. Watson, Jr. in Oxford, North Carolina.  Over the next 19 years, that firm grew into the four lawyer firm of Watson, Dunlow & Wilkinson, P.A. In 2013, myself and my partner, Chance Wilkinson, formed the firm of Dunlow & Wilkinson, P.A., still based in Oxford, North Carolina.

In my spare time (as limited as it is), I enjoy spending time with my children.  I am very active with North Granville Athletic Association (NGAA) where I routinely coach my sons' baseball team while serving as a Board member and as Treasurer.  I am active in my church - Delrayno Baptist Church, where I am a member of the Finance Committee and Constitution Committee.

My next favorite hobby has got to be scuba diving.  I have always been fascinated with scuba diving.  I grew up watching Jacques Cousteau on TV and always wanted to learn to dive.  In 2009, I finally quit procrastinating and became a certified scuba diver.  Since then, I have gone on to acquire my advanced open water certification and nitrox certification.

I also enjoy playing golf, reading and playing video games.

I was born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina in 1968.  I was the youngest of 5 children (3 sisters and 1 brother).  Although born in Roanoke Rapids, I lived my entire life in Gaston, North Carolina (just across the river from Roanoke Rapids) with only one stoplight in the town.

I attended 1st - 12th grade at a small, private Christian school called Roanoke Christian School in Roanoke Rapids.  I graduated in 1986.  I played church league softball until I was 12 years old and in High School I played basketball and baseball for our school team.

My father was a farmer - he raised mainly peanuts, cotton and corn (no tobacco).  I spent my summers working on the farm.  My mother was a stay at home mom, but frequently helped my father run the business end of farming.

There are no other attorneys in my immediate or extended family, but from a very early age, I knew that I wanted to be an attorney.  I'm not sure exactly why, but I have always been drawn to the idea of helping people in their time of need.
